Bellville.

Jacob Burkholder is at work in preparing to erect a barn.

J. Gerhart, of West Salem, was in town the first of the week.

John Swank is slowly recovering, but is not yet out of danger.

F.L. Garber, returned from Minerva Friday night, accompanied by Theodore Carpenter.

Aaron B. Leedy had a rheumatic trouble in one of his hips last week, which confined him to his bed several days.

William Donaugh is making extensive improvements about the house on the farm he recently purchased of William Kanaga.

S.D. Huston closed his Winter term of school at Rollersville, and returned to this place Thursday of last week.  He went to Mansfield Monday.

Jno. Kanaga, Jr., who is now in the law office of his brother, Ame, received a commission to act as Notary Public last week, and is now ready to freeze bargains.

Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Douglass, the newly wedded, took the train Friday for their home in Batesville.  A number of their friends accompanied to the depot.  A bright and happy future to them.

Friends to the number of forty, carrying well-filled baskets, honoring Mr. & Mrs. A. Hoff with their presence Monday evening, March 8th.  It was the wife's forty-first birthday anniversary.  The surprise was complete.

Administration settlements will be for hearing March 20th., as follows:  Partial:  john H. Miller, guardian of O.M. Brooks;  John Steel, adm'r of N.S. Files;  William Stoodt, adm'r of John P. Gross;  H.M. Weaver, ex'r of Geo. McBride.  Final:  Rebecca E. Follin, guardian of Chas. H. Follin;  Dennis Seward, guardian of Mary Madden;  Ann E. Cline, admr'x of George Kline;  G.L. Laser, adm'r of Mary Laser;  John Kendall, ex'r of Sarah Welsh;  N.O. Smith and W.F. Madden, ex'rs of George C. Howard.

O.P. Dyer is improving.

Miss Ollie Wright has gone to Mansfield.

Freeman and Demus Hartman are back from Michigan.

Eugene Hawley has hired to work one year at Plank's Mill near Independence.

Henry Russel moved away from Samuel Shafer's farm last Monday.

Elias Swank intends to build a new dwelling house for himself the coming summer.

Born, March 8th., to Mr. & Mrs. Warner Charles, a daughter.  Dr. Sampsell attendant.

Mrs. Lydy, wife of Prof. Levi Lydy, died at her home in Mt. Gilead, Wednesday of last week.

Mrs. J.M. Osborn took the train Monday for Washington, to visit a sister.  From there she expects to spend two months in the cities.  Her home is at Spanish Bar, Col.

Died, in Buffalo, N.Y., March 3rd., after an illness of two weeks, Edward P. Warren in the 24th. year of his age.  His remains were taken to Philadelphia and laid in the family burial ground in Woodland Cemetery.

J.H. Horn completed his fifth or sixth term at the Miller Schoolhouse Friday.  No better evidence of a teacher's abilities can be produced than that of being prevailed upon to teach so many terms at one place.

A birthday party was given Mrs. James Sites Saturday evening, March 13th.  It was a surprise indulged in by fifty of her friends, on her 35th. anniversary.  A very enjoyable time was had chatting and gaming, and a splendid supper was served.  Mrs. S. received a number of gifts.

Dr. Dyer visited Mt. Vernon the first of the week.

A.T. Shafer made a business trip to this place Tuesday.

Wm. Paste moved on Jerry Oberlin's farm last Monday.

Eli Hess will locate here the first of April to study and practice of music.

Mrs. Will. H. Kanaga is among the sick requiring the services of a physician.

Amos Kanaga is attorney and councilor for the new Retailers' Association.  -- Mansfield Call.

A number of Miss Libbie's Armstrong's friends gathered at her residence Friday evening, and had a taffy pulling.

There will be a grand reunion of the students of Lexington Male and Female Seminary, in Lexington, at 2 p.m., on Friday, Mar. 26, 1880.  Literary exercises consisting of music, addresses of welcome, essays, history, correspondence, recitations, orations, &c., will follow.  Old students filling various prominent positions in society will participate in the exercises.  It is highly probable the following persons will take part on that occasion:  Mrs. Sarah Gass Walker, Mrs. Orinda Brown Andrews, Mrs. Lucy Mitchell Duncan, D.K. Andrews, R.C. Brown, Ray R. Mitchell, M.D. and Rev. J.A. Hall.  There will be a reception in the evening by the teachers, Mrs. Mary Gailey Brown and Miss Janie Gailey, followed by miscellaneous addresses and a banquet.  All former students whose present address can be obtained, will receive an invitation and programme.   The invitation is general.  It includes students of Monroe Seminary.  Come one, call all.  Ample accommodations will be provided.  The afternoon session on March 26th. will probably be held in one of the large churches.  All families living at a convenient distance, that have been represented in the Seminary, are requested to bring a labeled basket of provisions and deposit it at the Seminary.  The people of Lexington and vicinity are much interested, and will accommodate all who come.  By order of Committee, R.R. Mitchell, Chairman.

ANNIVERSARY WEDDING.  On last Friday, March 12th., Mr. & Mrs. Lyman Andrews celebrated the 35th. anniversary of their wedded life at their home, all who have visited Mr. & Mrs. Andrews know what a delightful home, and how pleasant it always is, but on this occasion joy and happiness were crowned king and queen.  The guests consisted of their neighbors, living on the adjoining farms.  The Rev. Mr. Lewis re-pleged [sic.] the bride and groom for thirty-five years more, and presented them in behalf of the company, with the presents which had been brought.  The dinner hour was enjoyed;  the bountiful table was surrounded several times, but it was as full at the close of the attack upon it as in the beginning.  It was a day long to be remembered, and our hearts laid dull care aside.  We did and do wish Mr. & Mrs. Andrews much joy.

Independence.

Dr. J.M. McLaughlin visited this place on business.  He purchased the Darling property and will, we learn, put drugs in the room now occupied by William Severns.

Dr. Al. Secrist will move here to practice medicine.

A brother of J. Wise, Sr., will move in this section.  He is a carpenter.

Wm. Waterman and family came in from Indiana about a week ago to remain, but returned Monday on account of not getting employment.  He is a son-in-law of Juda Beemillers.

Wm. Lemly went to Cleveland last Tuesday with four horses.

George Wolf and wife move to Putnam County this week.

Mike Daugherty is a candidate for Constable.

H. Tresham will remove to Mt. Vernon.

Jacob Thoma buried his daughter (Susanna E.) last Sunday at Sand Ridge Cemetery (Ashland Co.).  She was sick for some time.

L. Switzer's child was buried last week.

We have another case of scalding to chronicle.  One day last week, Mrs. James Aungst was about to scald a chicken, when their only daughter fell into the vessel containing the water.  The child did not seem to be badly scalded, and was at first getting along well, but it caught cold and death ended its sufferings.

G.A. Flaharty took the job of building D. Baker's butcher shop, and began work last Monday.

The Cosners, of Fredericktown, have purchased John Redick's planing mill and lumber yard, and also a lot adjoining it.  They purpose to put in a large stationary engine and other improvements.  Mr. R. will turn his attention to carpentry.

Ross Adams and family started for Kansas last Tuesday.

John Dilts has improved his premises by the addition of a new fence.

William Traxler has made his fortune lighting the street lamps and has let the job to A.P. Andrews.

The cotton wedding of Mr. & Mrs. G.P. Blystone took place March 13th.  "Old and new" friends to the number of thirty-eight, surprised them by their coming, but everything passed off pleasantly.  Many gifts were presented them.  Bad weather prevented a large number from attending to join in making merry the occasion.

Forest Hall.

Wm. Fleming arrived home on the 9th. from a visit in Pennsylvania.

Miss Emma Buzzard will teach the Oak Hall School next Summer, and Miss N.A. Robinson, the Forest Hall School.

Married, Thursday, March 11, at the residence of the bride's mother, by Rev. A. Orr, Mr. Edward C. Douglass, of Noble County, O., and Miss Margaret E. Fleming, of Richland County, O.

Hastings.

Mother Losh is just lingering on the shore.  Her sons have been telegraphed for.

The wife of Jacob Berry has been sick for about two weeks.  She is convalescing.

Mother C.A. Berry took worse this Tuesday morning.  It don't look very promising for her.

Solomon Shupe is on the decline.  His daughter and son-in-law have been sent for.

Death is stalking abroad in the little village of Independence.  It is said four interments were made there last week.

Born to A. and Debbie Charles, near Hastings, a son, on March 6th.

D. Stewart is having a kitchen built by P. Berry, to be commenced next week.

Mrs. Sophiah Charles, of Iowa, daughter of Jacob Berry, is visiting her friends near Hastings.  She has not been here for fifteen years.
